U.S. Halts Iran Airstrike Announcements After Two Weeks... Trump Mentions 'Dialogue'
"Prefers Resolution Through Dialogue"
The U.S. military did not announce any airstrikes in Iran for the first time in two weeks.
According to CNN on the 24th (local time), U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees the Middle East, had been posting on X (formerly Twitter) for 13 consecutive days, up to the 23rd Eastern Time, reporting daily airstrikes on military targets in Iran. However, there was no such announcement on the 24th.
Instead, the U.S. military stated that, on this day, it had fired at and stopped an Iranian oil tanker attempting to cross a maritime blockade in the Gulf of Oman, outside the Strait of Hormuz.
In contrast, U.S. President Donald Trump said that while military action against Iran is possible if an agreement cannot be reached, serious negotiations are underway. He told reporters that there are "two options" for an exit strategy with Iran: a "military exit strategy" and "a wiser strategy of reaching an agreement."
