UNESCO World Heritage Committee Grants Approval at Busan Session
Phase Two Extension Completed Since 2021 Inscription
On the 25th, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee approved the extension of the listing for 'Getbol, Korean Tidal Flats' during its 48th session held at BEXCO in Busan.
With this decision, the tidal flats of Seosan, Muan, Goheung, and Yeosu have been added to those of Seocheon, Gochang, Shinan, and Boseong-Suncheon, which were inscribed as World Natural Heritage sites in 2021.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which is the advisory body to the World Heritage Committee, had previously recommended the inscription, and the committee accepted the recommendation, finalizing the extension of the listing.

The National Heritage Administration stated, "Korea’s tidal flats have once again been recognized for their role as key habitats on the East Asia–Australasia migratory bird flyway and for their outstanding value in global biodiversity conservation."
