Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province has officially launched efforts to secure future growth engines for the region by attracting the relocation of Gwacheon Race Park and fostering the defense industry.

View original imageOn July 24, Mayor Jung Deokyoung of Yangju City met with Jeong Seongho, Minister of Justice, and Woo Heejong, Chairman of Korea Racing Authority, to discuss cooperation measures on major local issues, including the relocation of Gwacheon Race Park to Yangju, and delivered a comprehensive proposal.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Jung Deokyoung, Woo Heejong, Chairman of Korea Racing Authority, and Jeong Seongho, Minister of Justice. As the central city of northern Gyeonggi Province, Yangju City emphasized its extensive metropolitan transportation network, including railways and expressways, and its significant potential for development, positioning itself as the optimal site for the relocation of Gwacheon Race Park.
The city expects that if it succeeds in attracting the Race Park, it will play a major role in revitalizing the local commercial district by drawing in millions of visitors every year, as well as advancing the tourism industry and contributing to the balanced development of northern Gyeonggi Province.
On the same day, Yangju City also presented its plan to foster the defense industry centered on Gyeonggi Yangju Techno Valley. The city intends to establish an integrated Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul, and Research (MRO+R) center, attract defense companies, and develop Yangju into a key hub for the high-tech defense industry in northern Gyeonggi.
In particular, the city requested proactive support and legislative improvements at the National Assembly level to build a defense industry ecosystem where both the private sector and the military can grow together.
