The "Ginseng of the Sea," abalone from Wando, will reach dining tables as a popular convenience food through the nationwide distribution network of Ottogi, one of South Korea's leading comprehensive food companies.
On July 24, Wando County announced that it had signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City and Ottogi Co., Ltd. to expand market access and promote the consumption of Wando abalone.

They gathered to demonstrate their shared commitment to revitalizing the consumption of seafood from Wando.
The core of this agreement is the development and production of Ottogi's new product, "OZ Chicken Wando Abalone Porridge," which is made using 100% Wando abalone.
The three parties will initially produce and launch 100,000 units of the product. Officially released within this month, the new product will be available to consumers at major supermarkets nationwide. Both Wando County and Ottogi plan to closely monitor market responses and then substantially expand production volumes based on the feedback.

Annual consumption of abalone is estimated to reach approximately 85 tons, which is expected to deliver a significant boost to fishing households that have struggled with declining demand.
In particular, the collaboration between Wando County, the largest production area responsible for 75% of the country's abalone supply, and Ottogi, which operates a nationwide distribution and sales network, is anticipated to create strong synergies.
It is evaluated that the excellence of Wando abalone—grown in clean waters and fed on kelp and seaweed, thus rich in vitamins, iron, calcium, and protein—combined with Ottogi's stable distribution infrastructure, will drive the formation of a large-scale consumer market.
