Korean Sport & Olympic Committee Extends Deadline for Electing Presidents of Member Associations to 240 Days
The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee has amended its regulations to allow the deadline for electing a new president of a member sports association, in the event of a presidential vacancy, to be extended up to a maximum of 240 days.
The administrative groundwork has now been laid for the Korea Football Association—currently operating under acting president and vice president Lee Yongsoo due to the resignation of former president Chung Monggyu—to reform its election system, including expanding the electoral college, and to elect its next president.
The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee announced on the 23rd that it approved a partial revision of the regulations for member sports associations through a written resolution at its 17th board of directors meeting, which was held on the 21st and 22nd.
Previously, the regulations stipulated that, when a president of a member sports association resigned, a successor had to be elected within 60 days. Under the revised regulations, however, if there are unavoidable circumstances, the deadline for the election may be extended in 60-day increments, up to a maximum of six months, pending a resolution of the committee's board. The appendix explicitly states that these new rules may also be applied retroactively to associations where the president's seat is currently vacant or where an acting president is in charge when the amendment takes effect. As a result, the Korea Football Association is also eligible to apply the revised regulations.
In order to reflect a wider range of perspectives within the football community, the Korea Football Association is pursuing a plan to expand its electoral college for the next presidential election.

The "K-Football Innovation Committee," co-chaired by Yoo Seung-min, President of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, and Park Ji-sung, is currently discussing a plan to increase the size of the Korea Football Association's electoral college to at least several thousand members as part of broader reform efforts in Korean football. Until now, the association has elected its president via an electoral college of up to 300 members.
