On July 23rd, an interview video with Kim, who is set to appear on the new KBS variety show "Don Sun-tae's Era of Success," was released through the official KBS YouTube channel. In the video, Kim mentioned a stock account he had disclosed on a broadcast in October 2022. He stated, "At that time, I was a major shareholder in Samsung Electronics. I owned more than 1,000 shares at around 58,000 won each," adding, "I even sold my house and lived on rent, investing everything I had."
However, Kim shared that he sold his entire stake in Samsung Electronics at around 62,000 won. He explained, "You probably don’t remember, but at that time, the stock’s sideways trend lasted too long. After more than two years, I got frustrated and couldn't endure it anymore. On top of that, I became disappointed with the overall domestic stock market." He added, "At the time, ongoing issues such as corporate spin-off listings led me to conclude that the Korean market was difficult."
However, the stock price surged significantly afterwards. As of the close on July 23rd, Samsung Electronics stood at 270,000 won per share. If Kim had held onto his 1,000 shares purchased at 58,000 won each, his initial investment of about 58 million won would have grown to roughly 270 million won. This equates to an approximate return of 365.52%, or around 212 million won in unrealized gains.

Kim was appointed as a grade 9 public official in 2016 and began operating the official Chungju City YouTube channel "Chung TV" from 2019. By leveraging the latest trends and memes in so-called "B-class sensitivity" content, he became a sensation, and was praised for transforming public relations efforts among local governments and public institutions. In recognition of these achievements, he was promoted to grade 6 at the end of 2023 after just seven years in service, drawing attention as a case of "ultra-fast promotion."
