Joo Hyungchul, Former Head of Gyeonggi Research Institute, Appointed as Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeonggi Province
Joo Hyungchul, former president of the Gyeonggi Research Institute, has been appointed as the new Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeonggi Province.
Joo Hyungchul is an information and communications expert who began his career at SK Telecom before serving as CEO of SK Communications. He has led initiatives in software developer training, startup incubation, and management of the Korea Venture Investment Fund at organizations including NHN NEXT, Seoul Business Agency, and Korea Venture Investment Corp., driving innovation and growth.
He also served as Economic Advisor at the Presidential Secretariat, where he was responsible for major economic policies in various sectors, including key future national projects such as artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G.
Recently, he has been active as head of the Democratic Party’s K-Meoksa-nism Headquarters and in the National Policy Planning Committee, contributing to comprehensive economic policies for both local governments and the central government.
An official from Gyeonggi Province stated, "Gyeonggi Province must take a leading role in driving South Korea’s innovative economic growth, and Joo Hyungchul is the ideal candidate. We expect that he will swiftly and boldly execute major economic policies to develop advanced industries in Gyeonggi Province and vitalize the livelihoods of the citizens."
