KOSPI Jumps Over 4% to Surpass 7,000... KOSDAQ Soars More Than 5%
The KOSPI, which had previously hovered around the 6,000 level, climbed back above the 7,000 mark in five trading days.

View original imageOn July 23, the KOSPI closed at 7,096.89, up 299.19 points (4.40%) from the previous session.
The rise in the KOSPI was led by foreign investors. Foreign investors and institutions were net buyers of 2.148 trillion won and 100.1 billion won, respectively. Individual investors recorded a net selling amount of 2.2097 trillion won.
All listed stocks posted gains. The construction sector (+10.47%), IT services (+7.77%), and metals (+7.16%) showed the largest increases.
Among the top 20 stocks by market capitalization, all closed higher except for SK Square (-0.73%) and Shinhan Financial Group (-0.67%). Samsung SDI (+11.46%), LG Energy Solution (+8.41%), and Samsung Electro-Mechanics (+7.66%) led the advances.
The KOSDAQ ended at 790.28, up 39.19 points (5.22%) from the previous session. Due to the sharp surge in KOSDAQ, a buy-side sidecar was triggered at around 2:27 PM. The KOSDAQ sidecar is a mechanism that suspends the effectiveness of program buy orders for five minutes if the KOSDAQ150 futures price rises by 6% or more from the reference price and the KOSDAQ150 index also climbs by at least 3% from the previous day's closing value for one minute.
Foreign and institutional investors showed significant net buying. Foreign investors and institutions each recorded net purchases of 133.6 billion won and 60.4 billion won, while individual investors were net sellers of 198.5 billion won.
All KOSDAQ stocks also finished higher. The general services sector (+8.63%), financials (+7.56%), and metals (+6.53%) recorded the largest gains.

Of the top 20 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, all posted gains except for Robotis (-1.37%). Alteogen (+14.37%), PharmaResearch (+11.63%), and Ecopro BM (+9.95%) saw particularly strong increases.
