‘750% Return Stock Expert’ Kyungok Yeo Also Hit Hard... 74 Million Won Loss in Hynix Leverage Investment
"An Example of Investment Failure" Account Disclosed
Loss Rate Hits -61%... 74 Million Won Wiped Out
Chef Kyungok Yeo, known as a ‘stock expert’ after winning first place in a real investment competition, has revealed her account showing a loss of more than 60% from investing in a SK hynix single-stock leveraged exchange-traded fund (ETF).
On July 22, Chef Yeo posted on her social media, “It’s sad, but I will show you an example of investment failure,” along with a screenshot of her stock investment account.
The photo shows that she invested about 120 million won in the SK hynix single-stock leveraged ETF, but the current valuation had dropped to around 46 million won. Her loss rate was 61.38%, amounting to an unrealized loss of approximately 74 million won.
The single-stock leveraged ETF in which Chef Yeo invested is a high-risk product designed to double the daily return of a particular stock. While returns can increase if the underlying share price rises, losses can also accumulate rapidly if the price goes down.

Chef Yeo is well-known in the culinary industry for her outstanding investment skills. While working at a hotel in 2004, she achieved a 750% return in just six months to win a real investment competition.
Her older brother, Chef Kyungrae Yeo, once mentioned on a TV show that “my younger sister took first place in a stock competition and even received a luxury sedan as a prize.” At the time, Chef Yeo received multiple offers from investment advisory companies but ultimately chose to pursue her career as a chef.
Just a month ago, she drew attention by disclosing an account in which she owned 9,000 shares of SAMSUNG E&A, showing an unrealized profit of about 245 million won and a return of 102.11%.
Meanwhile, as concerns have recently grown that single-stock leveraged ETFs based on companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are amplifying market volatility and investor losses, financial authorities have begun taking measures to improve regulations.

The financial authorities have decided to temporarily suspend new listings of single-stock leveraged products and raise the minimum cash deposit required for individual investors from the existing 10 million won to 30 million won. Additional investor protection measures are also being promoted, such as strengthening premium/discount management and mandatory pre-investment education for investors.
