Korea Development Bank and Suhyup to Establish Community Participation Offshore Wind Power Financial Model
Korea Development Bank, National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, and Suhyup Bank will expand financial support for domestic offshore wind power projects and work to establish a community participation-based financial model that enables local residents to share in the profits of power generation.
On July 23, Korea Development Bank announced that it had signed a financial business agreement with the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives and Suhyup Bank at its Yeouido headquarters in Seoul on July 22. The agreement is aimed at supporting domestic offshore wind power projects and promoting mutual growth with local communities.
This agreement was established to support both the transition to renewable energy through offshore wind power expansion and the sustainable development of local communities. Korea Development Bank and Suhyup will collaborate as key financial partners for domestic offshore wind power project support, and will jointly develop a business-linked financial support model and a win-win model for fishing villages.
Recently, offshore wind power projects have emphasized not only large-scale project financing (PF) for fundraising, but also a model in which local residents participate in the business to share in the profits of power generation. Under the agreement, Korea Development Bank will review business structures that can involve local residents and design relevant financial models. Suhyup will utilize its network in fishing villages and financial services to help spread this community participation-based profit-sharing model.
