Hurimatec Accelerates Acquisition of AI Defense Robot Firm Aidios... Enters Unmanned Defense and Public Safety Robot Market
HURIMATEC is accelerating its entry into the unmanned intelligent defense and security robot market by pursuing the acquisition of AIDIOS, a specialist company in AI defense and public safety robots. The company’s strategy is to foster the defense and public sector procurement markets as new growth drivers following the completion of the acquisition.
The KOSDAQ-listed company HURIMATEC announced on July 22 that it is in the process of acquiring more than 51% of the shares of AIDIOS, which possesses AI and specialty equipment technologies.
At a recently held extraordinary general shareholders’ meeting, the company completed an amendment to its articles of incorporation, adding AIDIOS’s core businesses—such as manufacturing military robot parts, landmine detection and removal, and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robots—as new business purposes. This measure lays the foundation for immediate entry into the AI defense robot business following the acquisition of AIDIOS.
With this acquisition, HURIMATEC plans to expand beyond its existing manufacturing-centered structure to become a provider of integrated AI-based unmanned intelligent defense and counter-terrorism robot solutions. The company also anticipates a corporate value reassessment in the rapidly growing physical AI and special-purpose robot markets.
AIDIOS, established in 2021, is an AI robotics specialist that develops and manufactures defense and security equipment capable of everything from detecting to disposing of explosives, all in-house.
The flagship product, the Maxpider QR—an ultra-connected, quadrupedal EOD robot system—adopts a ROS2-based universal connection bus. With its proprietary patent-applied docking station technology for quadrupedal robots, the system can integrate and operate a variety of counter-terrorism devices via plug-and-play within a single day, offering strong scalability.
It also features AI vision analysis technology that combines in-house patented 3D X-ray technology, large language models (LLM), and vision-language models (VLM), enabling autonomous identification of concealed threats within two seconds. Security has also been enhanced by applying a multi-band mesh link certified by the Korea Cryptographic Module Validation Program (KCMVP) for secure operational communications.
AIDIOS has obtained public institution bidding qualifications from organizations such as the Ministry of National Defense and the National Police Agency, as well as a license to sell radiation-generating devices, and ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications. HURIMATEC expects that upon completion of the acquisition, it will be able to build a stable foundation for robotic sales in the public sector procurement market based on these credentials.
A HURIMATEC representative stated, "Through the extraordinary general meeting of shareholders, we have established an institutional foundation for combining the AI robotics technologies of both companies," adding, "We will complete the remaining acquisition procedures without delay and grow rapidly into a global leader in the field of unmanned intelligent defense and security robots ready for real-world deployment."
