CJ Logistics' 'The Unban' Builds Nationwide Digital Transportation Ecosystem as Membership Surges
Nationwide Digital Transportation Platform Grows in Just Three Years
30% of Licensed Freight Trucks Participate in Freight Brokerage Market
'The Unban', the middle-mile transportation brand of CJ Logistics, is expanding its reach by establishing a nationwide digital transportation ecosystem.
On July 23, CJ Logistics announced that as of the end of June, 'The Unban' had accumulated 7,000 registered shippers and 70,000 carrier members. The number of shippers has grown from about 150 at the initial launch to over 7,000 in just three years, and the number of carriers has increased more than 37 times, from around 1,900.
This achievement is not merely about increased membership; it is significant because it demonstrates that a large-scale digital transportation network has been established. For freight transportation platforms, the core competitive advantage is the 'network effect,' where more participants mean more opportunities for transport matching. As both shippers and carriers grow in number, transport opportunities expand and matching efficiency is enhanced.
'The Unban' started in 2023 as a real-time matching platform for shippers and carriers, and this year, it expanded its service scope to include contract-based transportation for corporate clients. The platform provides stable vehicles and freight rates for regular shipments and speedy dispatches for occasional cargo, enabling customers to effectively respond to fluctuations in cargo volume. At the same time, by connecting carriers with shipping requests from various shippers, it reduces empty vehicle runs and offers stable transport opportunities, thereby improving operational efficiency.
CJ Logistics has strengthened the competitiveness of 'The Unban' by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology into the transportation operation know-how and data it has accumulated over 96 years. AI is used to analyze contract freight rates, transport history, route-specific demand, cargo characteristics, and regional carrier availability to suggest optimal transport solutions and improve the accuracy of freight rate calculations and vehicle matching. As a result, the automatic dispatch success rate, which was less than 50% at the service's inception, has recently improved to over 80%.
Furthermore, CJ Logistics plans to continue expanding AI-based transportation innovation to further enhance the service. A notable example is the AI order registration feature, which allows users to upload Excel files or input order data via conversational AI, making it possible to register orders without entering each detail into the system, thereby improving work convenience. The AI order registration function, currently being piloted, will be scaled up for shippers in the near future.
