Police Arrest Man in His 50s for Damaging Vehicle Carrying Jeong Chungrae
Vehicle Struck Immediately After Party Convention Preliminary Speech
Jeong Chungrae, former leader of the Democratic Party and a candidate for party leadership, was involved in an incident in which a man in his 50s damaged the vehicle he was traveling in. The man has been apprehended by the police.
The Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul announced on the 22nd that a man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, has been booked without detention on charges of property damage.

View original imageAccording to the police, Mr. A is suspected of striking the vehicle of former leader Jeong, who was about to depart from the Democratic Party headquarters in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, at around 7:00 p.m. on the 20th, using his foot and a tool.
It was reported that part of the vehicle was damaged during the incident.
The police identified and apprehended Mr. A the previous day and have completed their investigation. They are currently continuing the investigation to determine whether there were any additional offenses. A police official stated, "We are conducting further investigation into any additional crimes," adding, "We cannot confirm any personal information such as Mr. A's party membership status."

At the time of the incident, Jeong's team publicly announced via the media, "We express deep regret over the threat and violence directed toward the candidate who was inside the vehicle," confirming that an attack on the vehicle had occurred.
