On July 22, LG Energy Solution announced that it held the 4th Industry-Academia Cooperation Conference at the Daejeon Technology Research Center, with professors and about 90 master's and doctoral students from more than 10 universities in Korea—including Seoul National University, KAIST, POSTECH, Korea University, and Yonsei University—in attendance.


Launched in 2023 as the first event of its kind in the domestic battery industry, the Industry-Academia Cooperation Conference was created to share results from joint research projects between universities and enterprises, and to establish a sustainable industry-academia research and development (R&D) ecosystem.


Key R&D executives, including CTO Je-Young Kim, Vice President Seung-Don Choi (Head of Automotive Development Center), Executive Director Deok-Hyun Ryu (Head of Small Cell Development Center), and Executive Director Ki-Woong Kim (Head of ESS Development Center), participated in the event.


LG Energy Solution introduced its R&D strategy and future vision, sharing achievements and patent strategies in the fields of electric vehicle batteries, ESS, and next-generation batteries. Professors from the universities presented on cutting-edge technologies and the latest research trends, including all-solid-state, bipolar, and sodium-ion batteries as next-generation technologies, as well as lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for ESS, high-voltage mid-nickel (Mid-N) batteries, process advancement, and material diversification.


A total of 57 research projects were introduced during the graduate student poster session, and LG Energy Solution selected 11 outstanding posters for awards. Some of the award recipients will also be eligible for exemptions from document screening during future job applications.


Participants toured the research building, visiting the analytic lab and automated coin cell production facilities, and also took part in an electric vehicle test drive event featuring LG Energy Solution batteries. The event concluded with a networking session where R&D staff, professors, and students discussed ways to further enhance research collaboration.
