Innovative Technologies Must Align with Bold Investments
Lee Chung, CEO of Samsung Display, emphasized the need for innovation in displays, including smart glasses, AI, edge devices, and humanoids, stating, "The spread of artificial intelligence (AI) is creating new demand in our industry."
As Chairman of the Korea Display Industry Association, Lee delivered a welcoming speech at "K-Display 2026 (Korea Display Industry Exhibition)" held on July 22 at COEX in Seoul. He remarked, "The display industry is currently going through a major transformation. This is not just a simple change where one technology replaces another, but a complex technological transition where various innovations are taking place simultaneously at a very rapid pace in many directions."

At the same time, the industry is expanding its boundaries with technologies like XR (extended reality) and AR (augmented reality)."
He explained, "The expansion of AI servers and data centers is leading to increased demand for high-performance displays and optical components. Devices equipped with on-device AI now require low-power, high-resolution panels as an essential feature. Even at this very moment, new markets are rapidly emerging in areas that were not previously our strengths, such as smart glasses, AI in devices, and humanoids."
