KOSPI Soars Over 5%... 20th Buy-Sidecar Triggered This Year
KOSDAQ Rises at the Open, Then Reverses Downward
The Kospi Index is showing an upward trend, with the buy-side sidecar triggered as foreign investors continue net purchasing. Meanwhile, the Kosdaq Index has turned downward.
As of 9:33 a.m. on July 22, the Kospi Index was trading at 7,111.32, up 363.37 points (5.38%) from the previous trading session. By investor type, foreign investors had a net purchase of 1.2764 trillion won, while individual and institutional investors recorded net sales of 835.5 billion won and 440.1 billion won, respectively.
With a sharp rally early in the session, a program buy-side sidecar was triggered to temporarily suspend program buy orders. At around 9:06 a.m., due to volatility in the Kospi 200 futures index, program buy orders were suspended for five minutes. At the moment of trigger, the index had risen by 58.46 points (5.4%) compared to the previous closing to 1,139.3. The Kospi sidecar is activated when the Kospi 200 futures price rises by 5% or more from the reference price and maintains that level for at least one minute, suspending program buy orders for five minutes.

View original imageBy industry, all sectors are strong except for textiles & apparel (-1.23%) and food, beverage & tobacco (-0.12%). Electrical and electronics rose by 6.76%, while manufacturing (5.87%), construction (5.39%), insurance (4.79%), and machinery & equipment (4.74%) also saw significant gains.
Among the top stocks by market capitalization, Samsung Electronics, ranked No. 1, was trading at 273,250 won, up 14,000 won (5.5%) from the previous session. SK hynix, ranked second, jumped 8.3%, while Samsung Electro-Mechanics (10.1%), SK Square (8%), SK Inc. (8%), Hyundai Motor (7%), and Hyundai Mobis (6.5%) were all higher.

At the same time, the Kosdaq Index is trading at 775.23, up 21.89 points (2.91%). After climbing to 789.23 at around 9:14 a.m., the index turned downward. Foreign investors and institutions recorded net sales of 66.8 billion won and 33.1 billion won, respectively, while individual investors showed a net purchase of 102.6 billion won.
Among the top Kosdaq stocks by market capitalization, most are strong. L&C Bio fell 7.3%, while HLB (-5.9%), PSK Holdings (-3.4%), PSK (-2.8%), and VM (-2.2%) also declined. In contrast, SPG surged 25.5%, and Rainbow Robotics (21.7%), Robotis (14.9%), Korea Telecom & Broadcasting (8.9%), Hyundai Movex (8.2%), and Koh Young Technology (8.2%) posted gains.
