Cultural Heritage Architecture Expert from Korea National University of Cultural Heritage
The Cultural Heritage Administration announced that, effective July 22, Heondeok Jang, Emeritus Professor at the Graduate School of Cultural Heritage at Korea National University of Cultural Heritage, has been appointed as the 5th Chairman of the Traditional Architecture Repair Technology Promotion Foundation. The term of office is three years, running until July 21, 2029.

View original imageThe new chairman, Jang, is an expert in the field of cultural heritage architecture and preservation. He has served as a full-time expert member at the Cultural Heritage Administration, as a professor and Dean of Academic Affairs in the Department of Traditional Architecture at Korea National University of Cultural Heritage, and as Dean of the Graduate School of Cultural Heritage.
After graduating from the Department of Architecture at Hongik University and completing his graduate studies there, he earned a doctorate in architecture from Tsinghua University in China. He has served as a specialist member of the Architectural Structures Division and a member of the Historic Sites and Folklore Division at the Cultural Heritage Administration. Currently, he is an emeritus professor at Korea National University of Cultural Heritage, Chair of the Real Estate Division of the Sejong City Cultural Heritage Committee, and a member of the Cultural Heritage Committee of South Chungcheong Province.

The Traditional Architecture Repair Technology Promotion Foundation, a special corporation under the Cultural Heritage Administration, was established in 2017. Its functions include the systematic collection and preservation of components and materials related to traditional architecture, investigation and research, the transmission of traditional materials and techniques, and the promotion of repair technologies for traditional architecture.
