Moonshot AI Rides 'Kimi K3' Wave, Aiming for USD 74 Trillion Valuation Ahead of IPO
Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) company Moonshot AI is set to raise additional funds, targeting a corporate valuation of USD 50 billion (KRW 74 trillion). The funding talks are scheduled to begin in August, after which the company is expected to pursue a listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
On the 21st (local time), Bloomberg News quoted sources as saying that Moonshot AI plans to complete its current investment round (valuing the company at USD 31.5 billion), which began this summer, within a few days. Immediately after, the company will launch a new funding round targeting a USD 50 billion valuation.
According to people familiar with the matter, this follow-up fundraising is expected to be the last investment round before an initial public offering (IPO). Recently, Moonshot AI officially distributed a resolution to its investors seeking approval for a Hong Kong listing. The distribution of this resolution is interpreted as a signal that the company could go public within as little as six months.
Moonshot AI's successive fundraising is attributed to increased expectations about its technological capabilities. The company recently released ‘Kimi K3,’ an open-source model that is both cost-effective and high-performance, which has changed the perception that Chinese AI technology lags significantly behind the United States. With performance approaching that of leading American AI models, Moonshot AI has impressed developers and investors alike. The Kimi K3 AI model boasts a total of 2.8 trillion parameters and is designed to process up to one million tokens of context in a single pass. Artificial Analysis, an AI model evaluation agency, stated that the overall performance of Kimi K3 surpassed all competing models except for Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 and OpenAI’s GPT-5.6.

Moonshot AI’s positive business outlook is also cited as a reason for the acceleration in fundraising. The company’s annual recurring revenue (ARR) grew by 50% in just two months, from USD 200 million in April to USD 300 million in June. Following the launch of K3, daily revenue reportedly increased by at least sixfold. As demand for K3 surged, Moonshot AI temporarily suspended new consumer subscriptions and announced it would prioritize allocating available computing resources to existing paid users. The company explained that user requests in the 48 hours following the launch far exceeded expectations, pushing the limits of its existing computing cluster. Moonshot AI plans to gradually resume new subscriptions as computing capacity is expanded.
