Estraffic has been designated as an 'Outstanding In-house Corporate Research Institute,' a program overseen by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
According to Estraffic on July 22, the 'Outstanding In-house Corporate Research Institute' program by the Ministry of Science and ICT is a system that discovers and supports corporate research institutes with excellent technological innovation capabilities and outstanding commercialization achievements.
Estraffic was highly regarded in this year's evaluation for the technological capabilities of the Korea Train Control System-M (KTCS-M), a next-generation wireless communication-based signaling system. As a result, the company will receive various benefits, such as preferential participation in national R&D projects, over the next three years. This technology has demonstrated world-class safety by obtaining 'SIL4' certification—the highest international safety grade—for both ground-based and onboard core components.
Estraffic is accelerating efforts toward localization and full commercialization of the system on the Yangsan Line of the Busan Metro, which is preparing for commercial operation. The company has won contracts for the installation of KTCS-M worth 15.3 billion won, and the construction of an integrated railway wireless network (LTE-R) worth 10.1 billion won, successfully executing a total project valued at 25.4 billion won that aims to simultaneously establish the "brain" (signaling) and "neural network" (communications) for train operations, with completion targeted for 2026.
Estraffic plans to grow into a high value-added, AI-based mobility platform company by blending artificial intelligence (AI), digital twin technology, and autonomous mobility with its existing system technologies.
