Han Donghun: "Abolishing the Prosecution's Supplementary Investigation Authority Will Increase Cases Like the Jang Yunki Incident"
'Shadow Boxing' Against the Prosecution by the Democratic Party
It Is Ordinary, Powerless Citizens Who Suffer
President Lee's Withdrawal of Prosecution Is Comparable to State Treason
Hanh Donghun, an independent member of parliament, stated on July 21 that "if the prosecution's supplementary investigation authority is abolished, there will be an increase in cases fabricated by the police, and incidents will inevitably become distorted or cases like the 'Jang Yunki case' will increase due to incompetence and negligence."
Appearing on the SisajournalTV YouTube channel that day for a discussion with Professor Jin Joongkwon of Kwangwoon University, Assemblyman Han said, "If the prosecution's supplementary investigation authority is abolished, case fabrication will increase, and we will fall into a 'ping-pong hell.' (The Democratic Party) is engaging in 'shadow boxing,' demonizing an opponent that does not even exist."
Assemblyman Han stated, "Right now, even for cases referred by the police, prosecution is possible after a supplementary investigation. If CCTV footage verification is needed, we can do it directly. However, if we have to 'request' this from the police, it leads to power struggles and emotional conflicts between organizations. This will prevent cases from ever ending."
Assemblyman Han commented, "I believe the world the Democratic Party envisions will lead to the privatization of the judiciary," and added, "Would they handle cases that lawyers push to be expedited first? Or would they handle, first, cases worth 1 million won filed by mothers in traditional markets? In the end, it is ordinary, powerless citizens who will suffer harm."
Assemblyman Han said, "The case involving Kim Hak-ui is certainly a fault of the prosecution," but added, "But are the cases involving President Lee Jaemyung or Kim Yong faults of the prosecution? The prosecution's faults are just that—faults. Shouldn't we just reform things so that their functions work properly?"
Regarding the division of opinion within the Democratic Party, Assemblyman Han noted, "They pass amendments to the Criminal Procedure Act through sheer numbers, and now, saying the country will collapse, they are creating an 'alibi.' If they know it is against the national interest and still don't block it, that is dereliction of duty, which is a crime."
