Korea, China, and Japan Engineering Communities Join Forces for 'Physical AI' Cooperation
International Symposium to Be Held in Seoul on July 23
Discussing Innovation in Manufacturing, Robotics, and Energy, and Strategies for International Cooperation
As the era of 'Physical AI,' in which artificial intelligence (AI) merges with real-world industries such as manufacturing, robotics, and energy, begins, engineering communities from Korea, China, and Japan will gather to discuss strategies for technological cooperation and industrialization.
The National Academy of Engineering of Korea announced on the 22nd that it will jointly host an international symposium titled 'Physical AI and Sustainability,' as well as the 29th East Asia Round Table Meeting (EA-RTM), together with the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and the Engineering Academy of Japan (EAJ) at L Tower in Seoul on July 23.

View original imagePhysical AI refers to next-generation artificial intelligence technology that goes beyond generative AI to autonomously control and operate real industrial systems such as manufacturing plants, robots, mobility, and logistics. It is gaining attention as a key technology for manufacturing innovation and digital transformation. The Korean government is also nurturing it as a national strategic technology.
The symposium will address real-world applications of Physical AI in manufacturing, energy, and mobility, and discuss core industrialization challenges such as system integration, data infrastructure, interoperability, and energy efficiency.
In the first session, cases of Physical AI applied to AI-based autonomous production systems, supply chain optimization, and resource recycling industries will be presented. The following sessions will cover topics such as manufacturing innovation for carbon neutrality, collaboration in climate technology, and eco-friendly manufacturing strategies. The final session will address AI policies and governance, digital twin technology, and new paths for international cooperation.
After the symposium, members of the engineering academies from Korea, China, and Japan will hold a closed roundtable meeting to discuss joint cooperation initiatives for Physical AI and sustainable industrial development.
