ELS Issuance Totals 27.76 Trillion Won in H1, Up 27.7% Year-on-Year
In the first half of this year, the issuance amount of Equity-Linked Securities (ELS) totaled 27.7618 trillion won. This figure represents a 41.7% decrease from the previous half-year period, but a 27.7% increase compared to the same period last year.
According to the Korea Securities Depository on July 21, the number of ELS issued was 8,381 products, marking a 5.7% increase from the previous half and a 36.9% increase year-on-year. By issuance type, public offerings accounted for 85.7% (23.7790 trillion won) of the total ELS issuance, while private placements made up 14.3% (3.9828 trillion won).
By underlying asset type, ELS based on stocks accounted for 49.1% of total issuances. ELS including the S&P 500 reached 7.1085 trillion won, down 15.1% from the previous half and down 11.4% from a year earlier. ELS including the EURO STOXX 50 amounted to 4.9411 trillion won, representing a 30.6% decrease from the previous half and a 31.2% decrease year-on-year. ELS including the NIKKEI 225 totaled 3.2885 trillion won, recording a 26.9% increase from the previous half and a 21.0% increase year-on-year. For ELS including the KOSPI 200, issuances totaled 11.1171 trillion won, which is a 22.6% decrease from the previous half, but a 24.8% increase compared to the same period last year.

The redemption amount in the first half of this year was 29.4406 trillion won, marking a 29.6% decrease from the previous half. By type, maturity redemptions and early redemptions stood at 11.2673 trillion won and 14.6082 trillion won, accounting for 38.3% and 49.6% of total redemptions, respectively. Mid-term redemptions amounted to 3.5651 trillion won, making up 12.1% of the total. As of the end of June this year, the outstanding balance of ELS was 57.9012 trillion won, down 2.6% from the previous half-year.
