"We Must Learn from Failure"...Ahn Cheol-soo Proposes Inviting Moon to Real Estate Major Debate on the 23rd

He said, "I hope former President Moon Jae-in, former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Hyun-mee, and former Blue House Policy Chief Kim Soo-hyun will be invited as speakers," and added, "Reinforcing loan regulations and mentioning an increase in property taxes is strikingly similar to the failed real estate policies of the Moon Jae-in administration."
He then criticized the previous administration by saying, "Former President Moon announced real estate measures 28 times, yet all failed, and the price of apartments in Seoul doubled. Former Minister Kim Hyun-mee not only failed to provide new housing supply, but even private redevelopment and reconstruction projects were derailed. Former Policy Chief Kim Soo-hyun, despite triggering the 'smart single property' phenomenon, succeeded in the reconstruction of his own apartment."
Ahn emphasized, "The debate on the 23rd should not be a 'mega real estate show' that flatters President Lee, but a venue where the architects, executors, and those accountable for policy analyze the causes of failure in front of the public. If we fail to learn from past mistakes, we will only be inviting further failures."
Previously, the government held preliminary debates over three days from the 14th to the 16th, covering topics such as housing supply, finance, and the taxation system. During these sessions, a free-for-all discussion about policy deregulation and tax standards unfolded, though consensus was not reached. However, during the final major debate scheduled for the 23rd, which President Lee will preside over, most expect that more concrete policy guidelines will be presented.
Apart from the public debates, the government is also gathering public opinions through the official website 'realestatedebate.kr'. As of 8 a.m. that day, 1,921 suggestions had been received. Of these, the finance sector had the most submissions at 890, followed by supply (562) and taxation (462).
The government plans to incorporate the opinions from these debates into its soon-to-be-announced real estate policies. Experts predict that the general framework of the policy will be revealed on this date.
