LG Electronics Nears NVIDIA CDU Certification... Test Prototype Development Completed
"Certification Process Underway, Completion Expected Soon"
Pursuing Supply of Cooling Solutions for AI Factories
LG Electronics Poised to Enter NVIDIA's Supply Chain
LG Electronics' cooling solution, the "Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU)," is set to receive product certification from NVIDIA in the near future. With the emergence of AI factories—facilities that utilize large-scale training of artificial intelligence (AI) data for services—demand for cooling solutions is expected to surge rapidly. This development suggests that LG Electronics has successfully laid the groundwork for product certification partnerships with global leading big tech companies.
According to NVIDIA's official website as of July 20, LG Electronics' 600 kW CDU was recently listed on the certification roster for the "AI Factory DSX (Data Center Scale-out) Infrastructure." This product was developed by LG Electronics as a prototype for testing during the certification process. An LG Electronics representative stated, "The certification process is proceeding on schedule and is expected to be completed soon."
NVIDIA DSX, an integrated design and operation platform for large-scale AI factories, supports the design, construction, and optimization of AI factories through AI infrastructure deployment, power management, and system simulation. The LG Electronics CDU distributes coolant to GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) servers within the data center and transfers heat generated by the servers to the outside, serving as a core device for liquid cooling. In essence, it fulfills the role of a cooling solution that handles heat generated both inside AI servers and throughout the data center.
LG Electronics has been pursuing NVIDIA certification for CDU supply. Leveraging its accumulated thermal management technologies and expertise in key components from its heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) business, LG Electronics is currently collaborating with NVIDIA toward certification of liquid cooling solutions, including CDU, cold plates, and immersion cooling. On June 8, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, during his visit to Korea, officially confirmed this collaborative initiative in a meeting with LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo.
As computational performance and power consumption per server in AI semiconductors increase rapidly, data center cooling is transitioning from traditional air cooling to liquid cooling. This is because air-based heat dissipation is no longer sufficient to efficiently manage the heat generated in high-density GPU racks. Consequently, liquid cooling equipment such as CDU and cold plates is emerging as core infrastructure for AI data centers. Accordingly, LG Electronics is expanding its data center cooling business—historically focused on large-scale refrigeration systems, chillers, and HVAC equipment—into the internal liquid cooling segment for servers.
LG Electronics unveiled its AI data center HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) solution product at 'DCW 2026' on April 20 (local time) in Washington D.C., USA. LG Electronics proposed a total solution ranging from thermal management solutions including air, liquid, and immersion cooling for AI data centers to energy usage optimization. LG Electronics.

Industry analysts expect that once LG Electronics secures final certification, it will establish itself as a supplier of cooling solutions for NVIDIA-based AI data centers, thus expanding opportunities for contracts from global cloud service providers (CSPs), data center operators, and server manufacturers.

Boyoung Choi, a research analyst at Kyobo Securities, commented, "The ongoing collaboration between the two companies on certification for liquid cooling solutions such as CDU, cold plates, and immersion cooling, as well as on modular system design, will explicitly incorporate LG Electronics' thermal management capabilities into the NVIDIA AI factory reference design. As a result, we anticipate growth in performance and a valuation re-adjustment for LG Electronics next year."
