A YouTuber in his 50s was transported to a hospital after ingesting poison during a personal livestream but ultimately passed away.
According to Yonhap News Agency on July 19, a report was received at around 8:30 p.m. the previous day that a YouTuber in his 50s, Mr. A, had consumed toxic substances while broadcasting from Jaeun-myeon, Sinan County, South Jeolla Province. Emergency responders dispatched after receiving a report from a subscriber found Mr. A in a state of cardiac arrest. Although he was transported to a nearby hospital, he never regained consciousness and eventually died.
According to the investigation, Mr. A reportedly ingested the poison while still live on air after having a verbal altercation with a viewer that day. Mr. A, who operated a channel with about 130 subscribers, was known for producing content consisting mainly of everyday conversations with viewers.
Regarding the situation at the time, the police stated, "It is difficult to confirm details as the case is under investigation." The police have secured a recording of the broadcast to analyze its appropriateness as well as to determine the precise circumstances of the incident. In addition, police stated that if it is found that anyone encouraged the act of poisoning or made insulting remarks that led to such an extreme outcome, those individuals will face criminal charges.
