Jung-gu Seoul Unveils Newly Renovated 1,050m 'Sentimental Street' Dasan Fortress Wall Walking Trail
Resurfacing of Pedestrian Walkway and Installation of Guide Signage
Jung-gu District Office in Seoul (Chief Kim Gilseong) announced on July 20 that it has completed the construction of the 'Dasan Fortress Wall Trail Sentimental Street', which began in April.
The renovated section spans approximately 1,050 meters, starting from the entrance of Dasan Fortress Wall Trail behind Jangchung Gymnasium and continuing along Dongho-ro 17-gil to Dasan Octagonal Pavilion. The district refurbished the old pedestrian walkway and trees, and added new guide signage and rest areas.
The district cleared the trees that previously blocked urban views and the fortress wall, planting around 10,000 native perennial flowers in their place. The flagstone walking trail was leveled and resurfaced, while benches and facilities that impeded pedestrian movement were reorganized, and rest areas were created. At key entry points to the Fortress Wall Trail, gate-shaped signage and guide signs were installed, while 22 ground-level directional signs were placed along the trail.
As Jung-gu District is seeking to have the Hanyangdoseong Fortress listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the construction prioritized preserving the original cultural heritage, based on expert consultation. Dasan Fortress Wall Trail is an area that retains historical features of fortress construction techniques from the Joseon Dynasty, including the 'Gakjaseongseok' (engraved stone blocks). The trail connects to the Namsan Forest Path and is home to the Dasan Fortress Library.
