Director Na Hong-jin's film "Hope" surpassed 1 million viewers on its third day of release, July 17.
According to distributor PLUS M Entertainment, "Hope" exceeded a cumulative audience of 1 million as of this afternoon.
This achievement came one day faster than director Yeon Sang-ho's zombie film "Collective," which surpassed the 1 million mark on its fourth day, making it the fastest box office run among this year's releases.
Released on July 15, "Hope" tells the story of mysterious extraterrestrial lifeforms appearing in the fictional village of Hopohang near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).
It is director Na's first new sci-fi feature in 10 years since "The Wailing" (2016), and has drawn significant attention even before its release thanks to a star-studded cast including Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Jung Hoyeon, as well as Hollywood actors Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Taylor Russell.
