Detention Review for Criminal Division Chief in "Jang Yoonki Case" Scheduled for 21st
A detention review for the former chief of the Criminal Division at the Gwangsan Police Station in Gwangju, who is suspected of exerting significant influence during the handling of the "Jang Yoonki case," will be held on July 21, 2026.
The Gwangju District Court will hold a pre-arrest interrogation (substantive warrant review) for Superintendent A, who is charged with abuse of authority and dereliction of duty, at 11 a.m. on July 21.
Superintendent A, who was part of the investigative command overseeing the Jang Yoonki case, is suspected of influencing the decision to charge Jang Yoonki with simple murder rather than murder with intent to commit rape.
The National Investigation Headquarters' special task force for “Jang Yoonki Case Fact-Finding” is also examining whether Superintendent A was involved in the decision to investigate Jang Yoonki’s past stalking and murder cases separately, rather than merging them.
