Arrest Warrant Also Requested for One Suspect in Unlawful Search of the Women’s Junior Handball National Team
The police have applied for an arrest warrant for a woman in her 30s who blocked the entry of sports organizations at the polling station in Jamsil Olympic Park during a protest.
The Songpa Police Station in Seoul announced on the 16th that they had requested a pretrial detention warrant for Ms. A, who is accused of obstruction of business.
The prosecution filed for the warrant at around 6 p.m. on this day, and the Seoul Eastern District Court is scheduled to conduct a pretrial detention hearing (substantive warrant review) at 2:30 p.m. on July 21.
Ms. A is accused of preventing the work of the sports organizations by holding the door of the polling station for about two hours and obstructing their entrance on June 16, after Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, agreed to allow the sports organizations to enter the handball stadium and attempted to go inside.
The police launched an investigation into the case on June 17 and summoned Ms. A for questioning as a suspect on July 10.
In addition, the police have also requested an arrest warrant for a man in his 30s, one of five suspects accused of unlawfully searching the women’s junior handball national team at the handball stadium on June 8 (special coercion).
The police have also requested pretrial detention warrants for three men in their 20s accused of obstructing official duties (obstruction of a public official in the execution of duties with special circumstances) at the polling station on June 6. They are accused of insulting police officers by calling them “Chinese police” and blocking their path.
Three suspects accused of damaging and entering the machine room door at the handball stadium on June 7 (trespassing and damaging public property) were sent to prosecution without detention.
