Bumnam Yang, a National Assembly member from the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Gwangju Seo-gu Eul), submitted a proposal to the Ministry of National Defense regarding the relocation of the Maruk-dong ammunition depot, in connection with the plan to establish a semiconductor cluster in the Honam region.
On July 15, Representative Yang met with Defense Minister Kyubaek Ahn to outline the planned establishment of the Honam region semiconductor cluster at the Gwangju military airport site and delivered a related proposal letter.
During the meeting, Yang emphasized that the Honam region semiconductor cluster is a key national strategic project aimed at balanced regional development and strengthening competitiveness in advanced industries, and requested active cooperation from the Ministry of National Defense throughout the implementation process.

The Maruk-dong ammunition depot has remained a longstanding issue for over 20 years, with local residents continuously calling for its relocation due to persistent restrictions on local development and inconveniences caused by the designation of the area as a military facility protection zone.
Representative Yang stated, "I will do my utmost to ensure that the Honam region semiconductor cluster, a core national strategic project, is successfully created and that the relocation of the Maruk-dong ammunition depot proceeds without setbacks."
