Following the passage of the committee establishment resolution and the appointment of committee members at the first plenary session of the 430th extraordinary session, the committee officially began its work on this day.
The launch of this committee is significant in that it establishes a council-level response channel to ensure that Jeonbuk is not excluded from the target sites and follow-up policies in the government's large-scale project implementation process. The committee comprises 11 members, including Chairperson Seo Nani and councilors Kang Taechang, Song Jaeyoung, Kim Jutaek, Han Junhee, Yoon Jihong, Lim Seungsik, Na Jongdae, Lee Myeongyeon, Park Suhyeong, and Han Jeongsoo.
The committee plans to monitor whether Jeonbuk's projects are reflected in national large-scale projects, review follow-up policies for the government's "Korea Grand Leap Three Mega Projects," keep track of the progress of national strategic projects, and establish Jeonbuk’s response strategies.
The main tasks include: ▲fostering strategic industries ▲attracting national projects ▲increasing corporate investment ▲promoting additional relocations of public institutions ▲securing national funding, and more. The core activities of the committee involve checking the direction of government policies and linking Jeonbuk’s industrial base and regional issues to national projects.
In particular, the committee will seek ways to connect key strategic industries—such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), future mobility, carbon materials, and agri-bio—with the national strategic industry initiative, utilizing Saemangeum’s renewable energy resources, industrial sites, and port and airport infrastructure.
Chairperson Seo Nani stated, "The government's mega projects are core policies that will determine the nation’s future growth drivers. However, if Jeonbuk is omitted from major projects, the region’s growth opportunities will decrease, and problems may arise for the balanced national development."
