This amount was secured by selling 2.85 million unlisted shares of Company A, which Kim had held under a borrowed-name corporation. The prosecution froze these shares in December 2020, and recently secured the proceeds following their sale.
Kim Jaehyun was found guilty and sentenced in July 2022 as the ringleader of the Optimus Fund fraud case, with an order to forfeit KRW 75.17 billion.
Since the final judgment, the prosecution has continuously tracked down and recovered hidden assets belonging to Kim, such as investments made under borrowed names, resort memberships, and a security deposit for a jeonse lease in his spouse's name. Including the newly recovered amount, the total recovered so far stands at KRW 21.66 billion.
The newly secured KRW 2.28 billion is recognized as criminal proceeds and, in accordance with relevant laws, will be returned to victims of the Optimus case.
