Handonghun Criticizes Jang Donghyuk for Opposing His Rejoining: "Trying to Survive by Picking a Fight"
Han: "The number of people opposing my return to the People Power Party is steadily decreasing"
Handonghun, an independent member of the National Assembly, on July 16 criticized Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, who opposes his reinstatement into the party, saying, "Isn't he just trying to pick a fight with me as a way of prolonging his own political survival?"
After attending the National Assembly Global Diplomacy and Security Forum held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building in Yeouido, Seoul that day, Handonghun told reporters, "The number of people opposing my reinstatement to satisfy their own personal ambitions is dwindling," making his position clear.
The previous day, at a YouTube broadcast, Leader Jang criticized Handonghun, saying, "He wants to be remembered as the person who blocked martial law and led the impeachment, but after pushing Mayor Chu Kyungho and the People Power Party into a corner, he suddenly says he wants to return—what kind of logic is that?"
In response, Handonghun said, "I don't know if I need to respond to everything he says," and added, "Martial law is an important chapter in the history of the Republic of Korea, but I am not fixated on the past. Instead, I aim to rebuild conservatism for future victories. I will move forward with all those who share this vision."
When asked about People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheolsoo's criticism, suggesting he should create a new party rather than seek reinstatement, Handonghun retorted, "Is he saying he's going to create a new party himself?"

He continued, "I have already stated that I will return. What I mean by rebuilding conservatism is a decisive victory in the 2028 general elections and regaining power in 2030. I feel that many people resonate with this path."
