Korean Air and Asiana to Lower International Fuel Surcharges in August...Up to 170,000 Won Cut

The fuel surcharge for international flight tickets issued in August will be reduced.
On July 16, Korean Air and Asiana Airlines announced that the fuel surcharge applied to international tickets issued in August will be lowered by five levels, from level 19 last month to level 14.
The fuel surcharge is determined based on the average Singapore kerosene price (MOPS), which fell from USD 142.09 per barrel to USD 119.06 per barrel.
For tickets issued in July, Korean Air charged a fuel surcharge ranging from a minimum of 46,400 won to 344,000 won. However, for tickets issued in August, the surcharge will range from a minimum of 35,200 won to a maximum of 259,200 won.
Asiana Airlines also charged a fuel surcharge of 48,500 won to 275,800 won, but will lower it to between 36,600 won and 202,900 won for August ticket issuance.

For example, for round-trip long-haul routes such as New York and Boston, the fuel surcharge for tickets issued by Korean Air in July was 688,000 won, but this will decrease to approximately 518,400 won in August, resulting in a reduction of about 170,000 won.
