Hamyang County Takes Proactive Measures Against Rice Diseases and Pests... Joint Aerial Spraying Over 2,706ha
Efficient Pest Control Using Drones and Wide-Area Sprayers
Preventing Damage Through Prior Consultation with Eco-Friendly Farming Zones and Beekeeping Farms
Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province is launching a full-scale joint aerial pesticide spraying operation to prevent the outbreak of major rice diseases and pests during the rice growing season, and to establish a stable foundation for rice production.
On July 16, starting in Dobuk-ri, Sudong-myeon, the county carried out its first round of joint aerial pesticide spraying using drones. The county announced that it plans to conduct two rounds of spraying across a total of 2,706 hectares by September.
This joint spraying initiative is designed to prevent and contain the spread of major rice pests such as the brown planthopper and rice leaf folder, as well as diseases like rice blast and sheath blight, which are prevalent during the growing season.

The spraying will be differentiated by using drones and wide-area sprayers, with conventional cultivation areas and eco-friendly farming zones treated separately.
In particular, during the spraying period, the county plans to conduct prior consultations to prevent damage to eco-friendly cultivation zones and beekeeping farms, coordinating schedules and the selection of pesticides with zone representatives to maximize the effectiveness of the operation.
An official from the county stated, "Due to the recent hot and humid weather and abnormal climate conditions, the risk of rice diseases and pests is increasing. By conducting timely joint spraying, we aim to reduce pest damage, alleviate labor burdens for farmers, and support the production of high-quality rice."
The joint aerial spraying in Hamyang County is meaningful in that it reduces the labor burden for farmers while increasing the efficiency of pest control efforts.
