Crafts, Hanbok, and K-Goods Gathered... Shinsegae Centum City Unveils 'K-Heritage' for UNESCO Event
Korean Craft Exhibition and Traveling Hanbok Store from July 16 to 30
Comprehensive Traditional Culture Experience Content for International Visitors
Crafts, Hanbok, and K-goods that showcase Korean style to visitors from around the world will be gathered in one place at Shinsegae Centum City in Busan. This Korean cultural showcase is being held in celebration of the first UNESCO World Heritage Committee session hosted in Busan.
Shinsegae Centum City announced it will host "K-HERITAGE Shinsegae" from July 16 to July 30, featuring exhibitions, popup stores, and experience programs centered on traditional Korean culture.
This event, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Craft & Design Foundation, commemorates the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan. Activities are centered around the "Korean Craft Exhibition Welcome" and "Traveling Hanbok Store." Shinsegae Department Store is participating as a sponsor, presenting a variety of traditional cultural content such as crafts and Hanbok.
During the event, Centum City will be operated as a complex cultural space where visitors can simultaneously experience crafts, Hanbok, and K-goods in an area decorated with motifs of traditional Korean roof tiles, Hanok eaves, and alleys.
The "Korean Craft Exhibition Welcome," spanning approximately 1,300 square meters in the B2 Central Plaza, will present works by artists including Kwon Jungmo, Lee Junghun, Yoon Sanghyun, and Seo Junghwa. A popup called "Craft Garden," selling works by local craft artists, will also be available. On weekends, there will be programs led by professional docents.
A Hanbok exhibition by the Busanjin Market—an establishment with a 113-year history—will also take place. The event will introduce the history and production process of traditional Hanbok, and offer programs for foreign tourists such as Hanbok rentals, Daenggi keyring making, and instant photo sessions.
Eight brands will participate in the "Traveling Hanbok Store," which presents modern reinterpretations of Hanbok. These include Leesle, OMYO, Popuri, Etoile, Komak by Dolsillnai, Ohmygod, as well as local Busan brands Hanwear and Bunuriot.
The "Shinsegae K-Goods Shop," covering 360 square meters on the B1 level, will also be open. Over 800 product types reinterpreting Korean cultural heritage in modern ways will be available, including Chwigyeok Seonbijan (made in collaboration with Mimidal), Joseon Royal wine stoppers, and traditional dancheong-themed keyboards. Limited-edition Poovilla goods and collaborative merchandise with the Cultural Heritage Administration and National Geographic will also be on display.
Shinsegae Centum City plans to operate as a cultural space introducing traditional Korean culture to both domestic and international visitors to Busan during the World Heritage Committee period, leveraging its location adjacent to BEXCO, especially with foreign visitor sales in the first half of this year up 230% compared to the same period last year.
