Envisioning the Future of Schools in One-Minute Videos... Busan Office of Education Launches Student Shorts Contest
Open to All Students, Individually or in Teams of Up to Five
Winning Videos to Be Used as Official Busan Education Promotional Content
Students will pick up cameras themselves to capture stories about their schools and education. The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education has launched the 'Student Shorts Video Contest' to spread a student-centered school culture.
On July 16, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it will hold the '2026 Busan Student Shorts Video Contest' to create an educational environment of communication and empathy, where students—one of the three main stakeholders in education—can take the lead in shaping their own school culture.
This contest has been designed so that students can cultivate their creativity and self-expression by independently planning, filming, and editing their own videos. At the same time, it aims to naturally improve students' media literacy and digital skills. Selected outstanding entries will also be used as official promotional content to represent future initiatives in Busan's education.
The contest themes include: ▲Promotional videos about Busan education ▲Public service announcements regarding school life ▲Our dream school. Participants may select one of these topics and create a vertical shorts video of less than one minute in any format, such as dance, music, acting, animation, or vlogs.
Any student in Busan can participate, either individually or as part of a team of up to five members. To apply, participants must submit their application form and video to the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education's Public Relations Media Team via email by 5 p.m. on September 16.
Details about the contest can be found on the official Busan Metropolitan Office of Education social media channels and the contest event website.
The winning entries selected after judging will be announced through the Office of Education’s social media channels in October. The grand prize winning team will receive a gift worth 500,000 won and the Superintendent’s Award; two teams will receive the first-place prize, including gifts worth 300,000 won and the Superintendent’s Award; and three teams will receive the excellence prize, including gifts worth 200,000 won and the Superintendent’s Award.
This contest is significant in that students go beyond being beneficiaries of education policies and instead participate as key contributors in shaping education. As the importance of digital content creation and media communication skills grows in the educational field, short videos featuring students’ daily lives and thoughts are expected to become a new channel for communicating about Busan’s education.
