[Weather] Scorching High of 37°C... Which Regions Should Bring an Umbrella?
On Thursday, July 16, with heavy rains and heatwaves overlapping, scorching hot weather is expected to continue, especially in the Gyeongsang region, with daytime highs soaring up to 37 degrees Celsius. Southern regions will generally be cloudy, with rain forecast in some areas.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, rain will fall from the morning in the Jeolla region and Jeju Island, and from the night in southern South Chungcheong and northwestern inland areas of South Gyeongsang. The expected rainfall amounts for July 16-17 are: 20–60mm for Daejeon, southern South Chungcheong, and southern North Chungcheong; 30–80mm for North Jeolla, Gwangju, and South Jeolla; 30–80mm for Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsang; 20–60mm for Daegu and North Gyeongsang; and 5–30mm for Jeju Island.

View original imageFor the time being, temperatures will remain similar to or slightly higher than the seasonal averages (lows of 20–23 degrees Celsius and highs of 26–30 degrees Celsius). The daytime high may reach 37 degrees Celsius. In most parts of the country, the maximum perceived temperature will rise to around 31 degrees Celsius, making it feel hot, while in North Gyeongsang it will reach up to 35 degrees Celsius. The forecast daytime highs for major cities are: Seoul 32°C, Incheon 30°C, Chuncheon 31°C, Gangneung 33°C, Daejeon 30°C, Daegu 35°C, Jeonju 30°C, Gwangju 30°C, Busan 32°C, and Jeju 31°C.
Note that the perceived temperature at indoor and outdoor workplaces, rice paddies and fields, and roads may be even higher than at official weather monitoring stations, so extra caution is needed. Infants, young children, and seniors should reduce outdoor activity and take special care of their health.
