Jung-gu Seoul to Host 'Night Running Class' at Namsan on the 23rd
The Jung-gu District Office in Seoul (headed by Mayor Kim Gilseong) announced on July 16 that it will host a one-day “Running Basics” class for 90 residents at Jangchungdan Park and the northern Namsan Loop on July 23 at 7:00 p.m.
This course is the second running special lecture following last month's "Injury Prevention Taping Training." Depending on the participants' fitness level, the program will be divided into two beginner classes and one intermediate class. Each group will have a maximum of 30 participants. Due to the format of continuous running for over 30 minutes, the age of participants is restricted to those under 65.
The beginner classes will combine walking and running at a pace of 7 to 8 minutes per kilometer, covering a 3-kilometer round-trip course from Jangchungdan Park, passing by the National Theater and along the northern Namsan Loop. The focus will be on posture correction to prevent injuries and on the experience of completing the run.
The intermediate class is designed for residents who can continuously run more than 5 kilometers. Participants will run a total of 6 kilometers, which includes uphill training using the stairways near Dongguk University leading into Namsan. This class emphasizes breathing techniques and endurance improvement. Each group will be assigned a main instructor, an assistant instructor, and staff, while members of the Jung-gu District Office club “Romantic You!” will also serve as volunteers to help ensure safety.
Registration for both the beginner and intermediate classes has already closed. In case of rain, the event may be canceled for safety reasons, and any changes will be announced via text message on the day of the event. Mayor Kim Gilseong of Jung-gu stated, "I hope this will be an opportunity for residents to develop healthy exercise habits in the natural surroundings of Namsan on a summer night," adding, "We will continue to expand health programs that residents can easily participate in as part of their daily lives."
