[Tomorrow's Weather] Up to 80mm of Rain in Gwangju and Jeonnam from Morning... Heat Index to Reach '33 Degrees'
High Swell Concerns Along Jeonnam Coastline
Public Urged to Avoid Coastal Areas
The Gwangju and Jeonnam regions will experience a brief lull after a period of rain. Despite ongoing rainfall, the high humidity will cause heat indices to climb to around 33 degrees Celsius, maintaining sweltering conditions. Starting tomorrow morning, heavy precipitation of up to 80 millimeters is expected once again.

View original imageAccording to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on July 15, rain is forecast for most areas of Gwangju and Jeonnam from the morning of July 16 to late at night the day after tomorrow (July 17). The expected rainfall between tomorrow and the day after tomorrow ranges from 30 to 80 millimeters, indicating the likelihood of relatively heavy rain.
Despite the frequent rain, the intensity of the heat shows no sign of diminishing. Currently, heat wave advisories and tropical night warnings are in effect, centering on inland areas such as Gwangju, Damyang, Hwasun, Gwangyang, Gangjin, southeastern Naju, and northern Gokseong in Gwangju and Jeonnam. Today's daytime high temperatures will range from 29 to 32 degrees Celsius. Combined with high humidity, the maximum perceived temperature in inland regions will climb to around 33 degrees Celsius (around 31 degrees Celsius in coastal areas), resulting in very hot conditions.
The Korea Meteorological Administration has stated that as the rain continues, some regions will see the gradual lifting of heat-related advisories. However, humid and hot weather is expected to persist for the time being. On July 16, morning lows will be between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs will range from 28 to 31 degrees Celsius. The following morning will see lows of 23 to 25 degrees Celsius and highs of 28 to 31 degrees Celsius, similar to or slightly higher than the seasonal average.
Weather advisories at sea have been partly eased. The high seas advisory that had been issued for the northern part of the South Yellow Sea and the western part of the South Sea (excluding designated areas) was lifted at 5 a.m. today. However, high seas advisories remain in effect for the southern outer sea regions of the South Yellow Sea and South Sea. Strong wind warnings are still in place for Heuksando, Hongdo, Geomundo, Chodo, and Yeoseodo near Wando, so vessels engaged in navigation or fishing should continue to exercise caution.
In particular, until tomorrow, high swells triggered by ocean swells are expected to impact the Jeonnam coastline. Strong waves may surge onto beaches or wash over rocks and breakwaters, so the public is advised to avoid approaching coastal areas to prevent accidents and injuries.
