This event was organized with support from the Community Chest of Korea’s project funds and was planned to help elderly people living alone, who are vulnerable to the heat, spend the summer in good health.
For the event, members of the Hyodeokdong Community Security Council, the Residents' Community Council, the neighborhood heads' association, and the autonomous crime prevention corps joined forces early in the morning. Volunteers carefully cooked nourishing samgyetang themselves for the elderly guests, helping with serving and guidance, thereby putting neighborly love into practice.
Jeong Deok-geun, Chairperson of the Hyodeokdong Community Security Council, said, “I hope our elderly residents can stay healthy through this summer by enjoying the samgyetang we have prepared with great care during this season when it is easy to feel worn out by the heat and monsoon rains. I am deeply grateful to all the local organization members who participated in the volunteer work with a united heart, despite their busy schedules.”
Ryu Young-ran, Chief of Hyodeokdong, added, “I would like to express my sincere thanks to the members of local organizations who have shared their warmth so that elderly residents living alone do not feel isolated in the rain and heat. Going forward, we will further strengthen on-site, closely connected welfare services so that vulnerable elderly residents can have a safe and healthy summer.”
