Sancheong County in Gyeongsangnam-do has begun efforts to secure national and provincial government funding for the smooth implementation of regional priority projects and to secure future growth engines.
According to county officials, on July 15, Sancheong County head Yum Myunghyun visited Gyeongsangnam-do and requested provincial budget support and administrative cooperation for major priority projects planned for 2027.
This visit was organized to ensure that essential projects for regional development and improvement of residents’ quality of life proceed without delays, despite the challenging local financial conditions. It follows an earlier visit to the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on July 8 to secure national funding, representing the county’s second budget procurement initiative.

The key local conversion projects include: ▲The expansion of local water supply systems in Sancheong, Geumseo, and Danseong (46.4 billion won) ▲The remodeling of the Sancheong Culture & Arts Center (3.2 billion won) ▲The development of a park golf course (1.4 billion won), among others.
The projects seeking special adjustment grants are: ▲The maintenance project for Sangbeopcheon (Beopyeong District) (1.5 billion won) ▲The improvement of alignment on Provincial Road 205 in Sicheon-myeon (security section) (700 million won) ▲The installation of a youth free space at the Sinan Youth Culture House (300 million won).
During meetings with Kim Kiyoung, Policy and Coordination Officer of Gyeongsangnam-do, as well as heads and officials of relevant departments, County head Yum Myunghyun explained the necessity and validity of these projects and requested support to resolve regional issues such as disaster prevention, ensuring resident safety, as well as expansion of cultural and welfare infrastructure for youth.
Furthermore, Yum proposed an increase in provincial financial support for the stable progress of the city gas supply pipeline construction project. The county asserts that expanding city gas supply is a chief livelihood project, as it reduces residents’ fuel costs and helps to improve living conditions, thereby requiring greater financial support.
Additionally, the county requested administrative cooperation from Gyeongsangnam-do on other major regional priorities to lay the groundwork for future growth.
Specific proposals included promoting the elevation of the Korean Seonbi Culture Research Institute into the ‘Gyeongnam Institute of Korean Studies,’ integrating Korean studies research and training functions, and recommending the inclusion of railway lines passing through Sancheong (Hamyang–Ulsan Line and Namhae–Daejeon Line) in the 5th National Railroad Network Construction Plan.
Yum Myunghyun stated, “The core projects for regional development can achieve greater results when Sancheong County and Gyeongsangnam-do work closely together,” adding, “We will continue communication and cooperation with Gyeongsangnam-do to secure the necessary budgets for resolving local issues and securing future growth engines.”
