Governor Choo: Orders to Raise Floor Area Ratio for Samsung Electronics Pyeongtaek Fab 5 and 6
Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae has instructed an increase in the floor area ratio for Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek plant (fab).
Governor Choo wrote on her social media on July 15, "As the governor of Gyeonggi Province, I have taken proactive measures to maintain a decisive lead in semiconductors," adding, "At today's 2nd Semiconductor Competitiveness Acceleration Meeting, I instructed that the floor area ratio be raised so that Samsung Electronics' Pyeongtaek Fab 5 and Fab 6 can be constructed as triple-deck factories."
She further emphasized, "Gyeonggi Province has acted quickly and taken the initiative," pledging, "I will stand at the forefront of the semiconductor speed race."

The statement regarding the increased floor area ratio to allow triple-deck construction means that the province has eased regulations that previously prohibited the building of multilayer factories of such large scale. Since semiconductor plants often allocate clean rooms and production facilities by floor, a higher floor area ratio enables the company to secure more production capacity on the same site.
