Survey Shows Odor Levels Within Standards at 11 Incheon Odor Management Areas
On July 15, Incheon City announced that it had collected and analyzed a total of 240 odor samples from 80 sites across 11 designated odor management areas, including the Namdong Industrial Complex. The results showed that odor levels at every site were either undetectable or below the permissible emission standards.
Of the samples collected, 234 cases of complex odors measured at a dilution factor of 3 or less, indicating an odorless level, while the remaining 6 cases were all below the emission standard of a dilution factor of 15. Among the 22 specified odorous substances, only trace amounts of ammonia, acetaldehyde, and butyraldehyde were detected, with no detection of the other substances.
This survey was conducted by dividing each odor management area into core, boundary, and impact zones, selecting 80 representative sites, and collecting samples three times per day (early morning, daytime, and nighttime) at each location.
Since 2008, Incheon City has conducted regular status surveys in odor management areas, and is currently managing 11 such areas—the largest number among the 59 designated nationwide under the Odor Prevention Act.

An official from the Incheon Institute of Health and Environment stated, "Odor, even if experienced briefly, is a sensory nuisance that can greatly inconvenience citizens, making continuous monitoring and proactive measures essential. We will continue conducting the status survey in the second half of the year and do our best to create a comfortable atmospheric environment that citizens can truly experience."
