Cannes-Invited "Hope": HoYeon Jung and Hyundai Stella Command a Powerful Presence
Character Feature Video "Seongae" Released
Hyundai Expands Content Partnership Strategy
The new film "Hope" by director Na Hong-jin, which was released on July 15, features the Hyundai Motor Company's Stella, capturing the audience's attention. A character feature video titled "Seongae," which depicts actress HoYeon Jung attempting her first-ever action scenes alongside the Stella, has been released.
Set in the remote village of Hopo Port near the Demilitarized Zone, the film powerfully portrays the struggle of people facing a mysterious presence. The movie was officially invited to compete at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
The newly released video vividly shows how HoYeon Jung mastered her action scenes, including car stunts, through relentless effort. She explained in detail how she obtained a Class 1 driver's license for the film and performed drifting and J-turn maneuvers with the Stella.
In particular, the behind-the-scenes story of the highly praised car chase sequence is featured, including episodes of the bond between HoYeon Jung and the Hyundai Stella. The video also reveals extremely challenging driving scenes that are hard to believe were performed by the actress herself, conveying the intensity of the filming set.
Sponsored by Hyundai Motor Company, the heritage model Stella appears in the film as the police car driven by the main characters Beomseok (Hwang Jung-min) and Seongae (HoYeon Jung), commanding a strong presence throughout most of the movie's runtime.
The Stella is used as a cinematic device shaping the pace and rhythm of the film's chase sequences, and also serves as a cultural icon driving the period atmosphere and broader narrative of the work. Beyond being a simple prop, it heightens historical immersion and dramatic tension amid urgent situations and characters' struggles, earning widespread acclaim for the chase scenes.
Hyundai Motor Company has been actively pursuing new forms of content partnership strategies. In addition to "Hope," Hyundai has continued its immersive engagement with audiences on screen through both short and feature films, including its own production "Night Fishing" and "Bedford Park," which received the Special Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
