Daejeon Designates Three Leading Districts Including Dunsan, Accelerates Renovation of Aging Planned Cities in Regional Areas
Second Leading District Designation After Busan
Three Zones in Dunsan and Songchon, Jungri, Beopdong
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has designated the Dunsan District area in Daejeon Metropolitan City as a leading district for the renovation of aging planned cities and will begin in earnest to improve outdated residential environments. This marks the second time that a region outside the Seoul metropolitan area has been designated a leading district, following Busan Metropolitan City.
On July 15, the Ministry announced that it has selected two zones in Dunsan District, Daejeon (5,252 households) and one zone in Songchon·Jungri·Beopdong District (2,545 households) as leading districts, and will focus on supporting the establishment of special renovation plans as well as project implementation. The total number of households across the three zones amounts to 7,797.
By district, in the case of Dunsan District, Zone 14—home to Hangaram Apartment and Gongjak Hanyang Apartment—and Zone 13—which includes Moknyeon Apartment and Clover Apartment—have been designated as leading districts. For the Songchon·Jungri·Beopdong District, Zone 6, which includes Bora and Samik Sowol Apartments and comprises 2,545 households, has been designated as a leading district. Previously, an open call was held from March 30 to April 3, during which a total of 30,800 households across 10 zones applied.
Zones designated as leading districts will be the first in Daejeon to establish special renovation plans and actively promote project implementation. The experience gained from planning in these leading districts is expected to be applied to other planned renovation zones in Daejeon as well as aging planned city renovation projects nationwide.
The Ministry expects Daejeon's case to serve as a milestone for spreading planned city renovation projects throughout the country. Accordingly, it plans to provide support throughout the entire process, from establishing special renovation plans to project implementation. In August, the Ministry will conduct one-on-one consultations and consulting services for local residents and local government officials with the support of designated planned city renovation support organizations, through an on-site Future City Support Center.
