Keeps Pharma to Present Oral Insulin Research Results at EASD, Showcasing Global Technological Competitiveness
Keeps Bio Pharma (hereinafter referred to as Keeps Pharma) announced on July 15 that its subsidiary, Keeps Bio Med, which develops oral drug delivery platforms, will present nonclinical research results related to oral insulin in an oral session at the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) at the end of September.
The EASD is an international academic conference attended by approximately 10,000 researchers and healthcare professionals in the diabetes field from around the world every year. This year's event will take place in Milan, Italy, from September 28 to October 2, and Keeps Bio Med recently received notification from the organizers confirming its oral presentation.
The company plans to present nonclinical research findings, including animal studies, on orally administered insulin developed using its proprietary oral drug delivery platform, Oraloid. Keeps Pharma intends to showcase the high bioavailability and safety of its platform technology to the international academic community.
Peptide and protein-based drugs such as insulin are easily degraded by gastric acid and digestive enzymes, and have difficulties passing through the intestinal mucosa, making oral formulation development challenging. The Oraloid platform encapsulates insulin in an ionic nanocomposite (a fine particle structure that surrounds and protects the drug), designed to guard it against gastric acid and digestive enzymes while enabling stable absorption in the intestine.
The company expects that replacing injectable insulin therapy with an oral medication will significantly improve patient compliance and convenience. As a result, if the development of oral insulin is successful, it anticipates major changes in the treatment market for metabolic diseases such as diabetes and obesity.
Keeps Pharma plans to use this presentation at the international conference as an opportunity to expand global partnerships and to accelerate its research and development of oral drug delivery platforms.
Hayong Kim, CEO of Keeps Pharma, stated, "Being able to present the results of our oral platform research at such a prestigious international conference is a significant achievement, showing that our technology development is progressing smoothly. We will continue to focus our efforts on follow-up research and investment, aiming to overcome the limitations of injectable formulations and open up new markets with the development of our oral platform."
