Nurturing K-Content Talent... Busan Office of Education Highlights Achievements in Performing Arts Curriculum
"Musical Is My Friend" at Jurye Girls' High School
Achievements of Autonomous Public High School 2.0
The Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education (Superintendent: Seokjun Kim) will hold an event titled "School Theater: Musical Is My Friend" at Jurye Girls' High School in Sasang-gu on the morning of July 16 to share the achievements of the Autonomous Public High School 2.0 Specialized Curriculum Operations.
Jurye Girls' High School was designated as an Autonomous Public High School 2.0 in August last year following a review by the Ministry of Education. The school aims to foster creative talents who will lead the K-content industry, with a curriculum centered on "culture and arts·digital content convergence."
Autonomous Public High School 2.0 is a Ministry of Education initiative designed to enhance regional education competitiveness and improve local settlement conditions through education, in response to declining school-age populations and the risk of regional depopulation.
The highlight of this event is Jurye Girls' High School's signature specialized curriculum: the "K-Performing Arts Project." Students participate directly in every stage—from planning performances and writing scripts to stage directing and production—developing both creativity and collaboration skills.
Through such projects, the school puts into practice the "in-depth learning" emphasized by the 2022 Revised Curriculum. The goal goes beyond simply staging performances; students explore key concepts and apply what they learn to real-world projects, thereby realizing student-led learning processes.
Taking the opportunity of becoming an Autonomous Public High School 2.0, Jurye Girls' High School has established cooperative systems with local institutions, including Dongseo University and Sasang-gu Office. The school plans to further expand students' performing arts capabilities and career exploration opportunities by leveraging university experts, educational facilities, and local cultural resources in collaboration with the curriculum.
On the day of the event, students will present a musical that they have planned and produced themselves through the K-Performing Arts Project. In addition, the event will feature the "School Open Day"—which involves parents and local residents—as well as hands-on and exhibition programs hosted jointly with the Sasang-gu village community, making it a celebratory festival of learning for the school and local community.
Recently, school education has been quickly shifting from a knowledge delivery model toward process-based learning, where students directly experience and create learning. Jurye Girls' High School's initiative of integrating performing arts into the curriculum is expected to serve as a new model for Autonomous Public High School 2.0 by combining culture and arts education with community collaboration.
