Preventing Financial Damage, Learning at School... Seoul Office of Education Launches 'Economic and Financial' Education
'Jeonse scams, illegal loan fraud...'
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has conducted open classes and teacher training sessions to enhance students' economic and financial literacy in order to prevent such financial damage.
On July 15, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it had run the '2026 Economic and Financial Education Teacher Training' and 'Promotion of Economic and Financial Education Classes' in conjunction, from July 9 to July 15, 2026.
The teacher training session, held at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation headquarters for 45 secondary school teachers, covered topics such as: ▲economic and financial education in students' daily lives ▲experiencing the efficient market hypothesis and value investing principles through simulation ▲the fundamentals of the digital economy and finance ▲creative economic lessons using the 'Easy Economics and Finance' textbook ▲understanding the world of careers through taxes ▲case studies of the Teacher Learning Community (GyoHakGong) ▲and designing social studies economics and finance classes under the 2022 revised curriculum. In addition to lectures by experts in economic and financial education, including university professors and stakeholders from related institutions such as the Korea Association of Certified Public Tax Accountants and the Korea Deposit Insurance Corporation, the session also featured presentations by teachers on the operation of school-based economics and finance clubs and examples from Teacher Learning Communities.
During this teacher training, a teacher surnamed Kim from Yangjeong Middle School, who lectured on 'Experiencing the Efficient Market Hypothesis and Value Investing Principles through Simulation', is holding an open class at Yangjeong Middle School on July 15 for first-year students on the topic of 'money supply and prices' in social studies. In this class, practical examples of designing and conducting economic and financial lessons in the classroom are being shared directly.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education believes that, as financial fraud and illegal financial activities continue to increase, it is necessary to provide students with systematic economic and financial education from an early age.
An official from the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education stated, "Financial understanding is an essential core competency for youth to thrive as future members of society. By linking this teacher training and open classes together, we aim to establish a virtuous cycle of lecture-practice-field application and to strengthen the quality of economic and financial education in schools."
