Min Hyungbae Makes His Cabinet Debut, Vows Support for Semiconductor Cluster

As the government reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the development of the Honam Semiconductor Cluster, Min Hyungbae, Mayor of the Integrated Special City of Gwangju, Jeonnam, attended a cabinet meeting for the first time since taking office and expressed his intention to align with government policies. Sitting as a cabinet member with the privileges of a minister-level official, Mayor Min stated, "We will provide seamless support for the Honam Semiconductor Cluster."
At the cabinet meeting held on July 14, Mayor Min participated alongside Oh Sehoon, Mayor of Seoul. This marks the first time a special mayor has attended the cabinet meeting since the position of the Integrated Special City Mayor was newly established.

View original imageIn his greeting speech, Mayor Min said, "Forty years ago, Jeonnam and Gwangju were divided due to the military regime of Chun Doohwan and its ambition for divisive rule. Now we are united once again, and this was made possible because of the President's decision."
At the cabinet meeting that day, President Lee Jae-myung reiterated the need to raise the potential growth rate to 3% in stages by nurturing 'super-gap' and 'super-innovation' growth engines. He again emphasized the prompt implementation of the 'three major mega-projects,' focusing on AI and semiconductors.
The President stated, "The central government, local governments, and businesses must work together as one. If we save a single day now, we can gain ten or even a hundred days later. Please proceed with all related procedures as swiftly as possible."
Immediately after the cabinet meeting, Mayor Min welcomed the President's remarks and expressed his commitment to actively cooperate with the government's policies.

Mayor Min said, "The President's vision for 'integration and the Southwestern Semiconductor Cluster' is a decision that will diversify the growth path of Korea. In line with the government's push for rapid implementation, the Integrated Special City has already enacted ordinances and established a strategy committee and support group to operate a response system. We will provide flawless support throughout the entire process, from permits and infrastructure to talent development and settlement conditions. Jeonnam and Gwangju will respond with tangible results."
